Start your day trip with a pickup from your Paphos hotel, and then travel north to Cyprus’ northwest peninsula, the region known as Akamas. Famed for its remote beaches and wild, rugged coastline, the area is perfect for an idyllic day in the sun away from the crowds of the island’s south coast.
Shortly after leaving Paphos, stop at Pegeia for your visit to Agios Georgios, the intriguing set of ruins that once comprised a 12th-century basilica. Walk around the ruins that lay around the old fishing harbor with your guide, and then continue by coach to Lara Beach, one of the island’s most sublime bays.
Kick back and relax on the sandy shoreline, enjoying free time to swim in the sea, lounge in the sun and perhaps enjoy lunch at a beachfront cafe (own expense). Besides the site’s obvious beauty, Lara Beach is also known for its population of loggerhead and green turtles that nest on the shores. Learn about Lara Turtle Conservation Project from your guide and — if traveling between the end of July and early October — you may be lucky enough to see some of the baby hatchlings crawling around their nests.
After making the most of Lara Beach, travel to nearby Avacas Gorge, one of the island’s natural wonders. Enjoy a stroll around its beautiful rock formations and admire its wildlife and plants, and then walk around its spectacular sea caves, hollowed into Akamas’ white caves.
From the sea caves, hop back on board your coach and start the journey south to Paphos. Your day trip then finishes with a drop-off back at your Paphos hotel.
