Immerse yourself in an ancient way of life with a walking tour of the vibrant Muslim Quarter of Xi’an. Admire one of China's grandest mosques, stroll through the colourful backstreets, discover the unusual blend of Islamic-imperial architecture and indulge in a tasty banquet of traditional fare on this fascinating journey into the past.

Your adventure begins as you pass the ancient Drum Tower to where the Muslim Quarter begins. This busy market area is filled with numerous displays of produce, snacks and souvenirs. You could even pick up a few treats while walking through the myriad of backstreets and alleys.

Stop at the Great Mosque, which dates from the eighth century and is one of the biggest in the country, and certainly one of the most unusual. Admire this interesting blend of Islamic and imperial Chinese architecture, discover ancient relics and feel at peace within the beautiful, tranquil grounds. Learn about the origins of the Muslim Hui people and hear the tales of how Islam came to China many centuries ago.

Continue with a visit to a smaller mosque that may not possess the grandeur of the Great Mosque but nevertheless offers great glimpses into local worship. Pass bakeries and butchers’ to reach a local restaurant where a delicious banquet-style Halal dinner or barbecue awaits. The tour concludes after dinner, when you are free to discover the riches of Xi'an by night. Perhaps walk back down to the Bell Tower Square through the busy night market or ask your guide for a few tips.
