Climb the Volcanoes of Southern Chile!

Life in Southern Chile is defined by the close relationship it shares with the natural landscapes of the region. Volcanoes and glaciers dominate the land, shape our geology and define our way of life.

Huella Andina’s “Volcanoes Journey” is an invitation to experience the Lakes District from a perspective that only the mountains can deliver.  During the journey we’ll visit three of the principal volcanoes of Southern Chile: Osorno, Calbuco and Casablanca and live the freedom that comes from discovering the mountains.

Activities during the expedition require clients to be in good physical shape and possess and eagerness to climb and discover new mountains.

 

Day 1

After meeting at the airport or bus terminal, we will head to the Puyehue area in the Osorno Province.  We’ll set up our camp and have an afternoon free to explore Puyehue National Park and/or take in a soad in “Aguas Calientes” hot springs.  We’ll have dinner at the campsite.

 

Day 2

Our ascente of Casablanca Volcano starts in the early morning.  We’ll chose one of two routes: “Laguna Bertin” or the the normal route starting at the ski resort Antillanca.  After the summit, we’ll head to the “City of Roses”, Puerto Varas and sleep in a cosy Bed & Breakfast Hostel.

 

Day 3

Our next destination is Llanquihue National Reserve where we will ascend the Calbuco Volcano.  Our climb starts at nearly sea-level and reaches over 2.000m, allowing us to discover evergreen forest and enjoy incredible panoramas of the Pacific Ocean and Lakes District far below.

 

Day 4

Rest or reserve day in case of bad weather.  If you wish to go canyoning, rafting or canopying, these options will be available.  Later in the afternoon we will drive to Vicente Perez Rosales National Park and visit the famous Petrohue Waterfalls, then spend the evening at the charming Teski Mountain Hut on the flanks of the Osorno Volcano.

 

Day 5

We complete our Southern Chile Volcanoes Experience with the ascent of the Osorno Volcano. The climb is not just physically demanding, but it also requires us to use glacier travel techniques to reach the summit.  From the mountain hut we will need between 6-8 hours to reach the breathtaking views looking out over the entire expanse of Southern Chile.  After the ascent we’ll reflect on the past 5 days over lunch at the mountain hut, then drive back to Puerto Varas.

Includes: Day 0: Airport transfer, City tour of Santiago, Luxury bus from Santiago-Valdivia and Puerto Varas-Santiago (overnight service).  Day 5:Luxury Bus from Puerto Varas-Santiago (night service), Day 6:“Santiago-Valparaiso”-Tour or “Wine Tour” visiting Causino Macul and Concha y Toro vinyards, Hotel***.  Day 7: Transfer from hotel to airport.  Price per person: $350,000 CLP (taxes included). -Includes: Local Mountain Guides (spanish, english), climbing permits, entrance fees to National Parks, excursions detailed in the program; transportation (as mentioned in the itinerary*), gear (ropes, helmet, harness, crampons, ice axes, carabiners, slings, belay/rappel device, ascenders, mountain tents, kitchen utensils/cooking equipment, tables and chairs for base camps or campsites), activity insurance, all meals and accommodations detailed in the itinerary, first aid kit (WFR), self-rescue equipment in case of emergency; Satellite Phone ($4USD per minute), Satellite Messenger and/or VHF radios. *All transport is subject to the itinerary and local availability. Huella Andina reserves the right to change the type of transport to comply with the program schedule. -Insurance: Throughout the program whenever adventure tourism activities take place: trekking, climbing volcanoes, rafting, canyoning or canopy, participants will be covered by complimentary additional insurance against accidents or death. The insurance is given through HAE Ltda. and its coverage is limited to the duration of said activity. Contact us for further information. -Not included: Personal gear, life and/or travel insurance, porters or horses, extra expenses for cities, meals not specified in the itinerary or not included in the menue, extra nights lodging in cities or due to changes in the itenerary, alcoholic beverages, guide tips, everything else not mentioned in the program. -Personal Gear required by client: Activity-appropriate clothing for mountaineering and trekking (layered, synthetic clothes, gloves and hat) mountaineering/trekking boots (plastic or leather), sandals, gaiters, swimming suit, towel, sunglasses (plus a spare pair), backpack (+55lt), travel bag with padlock, sleeping bag (synthetic fill rated to -7°C), sleeping pad, trekking poles, headlamp (plus extra batteries), water bottle/platypus, camera, sunscreen (for lips and skin).
