Signs of communism

Tour starts at 10:00 am from the Tourist Information Centre.

The first object is the Monument of the Soviet Army, located in the beginning of the Borissova Garden. Then you will experience a trip with a local trolleybus – relic from the old times.
This way you will reach the National Palace of Culture. That building is probably the largest congress hall on the Balkans which today still holds the annual congress of the Socialist Party. The vicinity of the National Palace of Culture also keeps a relic from the passed time – a piece of the Berlin Wall, which destruction started only 1 day before the radical democratic changes occurred in Bulgaria on 10 November, 1989.
Then you will have a walking tour down the main Sofia street Vitosha boulevard to reach an important square, home of the former headquarter of the Communist Party – the so called «Party House», the Presidency and the Central Department Store (TSUM) – the shopping center for the communist elite.
Your next stop will be at the place of the former Georgi Dimitrov Mausoleum, constructed in 1949 and destroyed in 1999.
The tour will end around the antique market outside Alexander Nevski Cathedral, with a chance to pick up some old communist relic.
