The city of Petropolisis lies about 60km from Rio and has been called the Imperial City since the Emperor D. Pedro II selected it as the State’s Capital. The Emperor liked the milder climat which reminded him of Europe. Colonized by Germans, Petropolis keeps the memory of Brazilian history alive with its buildings and charming streets.
We start with a visit of the Imperial Museum, which has been the summer residence of the Emperor and where all original furniture, personal and household objects (such as the crown of gold, pearls and diamonds used by D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II) have been preserved. Continuing to the Gothic Cathedral, where Princess Isabel was buried along with her father D. Pedro II and his wife. On to the Crystal Palace, built in France and mounted in Brazil, destined for exhibitions and parties promoted by Princess Isabel.
Time for optional lunch available during the tour. Finally you get some free time to explore the small shops on the famous Rua Teresa, before we return to our hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
