Choco and Grand City Tour

Discover a capital city with a sweet tooth. Brussels offers an enchanting mix of cultures, architecture, languages and cuisine. The capital of Belgium also hosts many of the European Union’s institutions, making it the unofficial capital of the EU. If this weren’t enough power and prestige, add the capital of the chocolate world and you have a city that is a must-see and eat.

Our visit begins with a stroll to Brussel’s central square, the Grand Place. Our guide will detail the history of this city landmark bombed at the end of the 17th century. The city’s guilds rebuit the square’s public and private buildings in a delightful blend of styles. Gothic, Baroque and Louis XIV architecture styles unite in a spectacular public space.

We will board a luxury coach for the suburbs, passing the Gothic-era masterpiece St. Michael’s Cathedral on our way to a space-age icon, the Atomium. This gigantic sculpture of an iron crystal was created for the 1958 World’s Fair. Brussel’s multiculturalism is on display at the Chinese Pavilion and the Japanese Tower which we will pass.

Across the Royal Demesne is the Royal Palace of Laeken, the elegant residence of the King and Queen, which we’ll pass as we head back into the city for some royal-style shopping in the antique shops of the Sablon District. While in the city, we will pay a visit to one of the city’s finest chocolatiers. A Brussels chocolate maker invented the praline a century ago and successive generations have perfected this exquisite treat. Learn how the chocolate is produced and take a taste test.

Next on the initnerary is the impressive Palace of Justice, believed to be the biggest building constructed in the 19th century, and Place Royale. Since we’ve seen the King’s home, it’s only right that we see where he works and welcomes other heads of state at the Royal Palace. The tour continues in the European quarter with a closer look at the leading EU institutions. As we head back into the centre, we’ll marvel at a monumental triumphal arch, the city’s many Art Nouveau homes and the Belgian Parliament.
