Kehlsteinhaus Eagle's Nest

This tour gives you a perfect combination of fascinating history and memorable natural scenery. Pass over the border into Bavaria near the salt mines, and drive up to the former village of Obersalzberg, which was once used as a base for the Third Reich and is where Hitler, Göring and Bormann used to own property.

Board a special bus for a breathtaking journey up the four-mile road to the Eagle’s Nest. The Kehlsteinhaus or ‘Eagle′s Nest’ is the famous mountain retreat of Adolf Hitler in the mountains of Berchtesgaden. Upon arrival, climb on an elevator that will take you more than 400ft through the mountain and directly into the Eagle's Nest. Originally given to Hitler by the Nazi party as a 50th birthday present, the building is a masterpiece of architecture, perched atop 6,017ft high Mount Kehlstein. It was built in only one year. When the area became the target of allied bombings, Hitler refrained from going there. The bombs failed to destroy the Kehlsteinhaus, because it sits on the top of a cliff and would require a very precisely placed bomb. Once here you will enjoy some free time to explore the old conference room, the dining area, the small tea room and the terraces, and your guide will explain all the history relating to this interesting building and area.

The tour includes the transportation and guide in English, German, Spanish, French and Italian. Duration is of approximately four-and-a-half hours. It leaves daily at 9am from Mirabell Palace, Mirabellplatz, 2.
