After pickup in Sydney, you’ll travel with your small group by air-conditioned minivan 18.5 miles (30km) to Royal National Park, a relatively undiscovered gem of a park with magnificent coastline, lush rainforest and open heath.
You’ll arrive at Providential Cove in time to see the sun set. Throughout the evening, the photographer guide will share expertise about night photography and how to get the best shots during sunset, nighttime and sunrise.
After sunset, savor a tasty dinner while watching the moon rise over Wattamolla Lagoon. Your chef will prepare a range of gourmet dishes such as pasta, salads and stir fried vegetables, served by candlelight at tables set among fig trees.
Once you have eaten, you’ll be provided with glow sticks, colored lights and a safety briefing before setting out with your guide along the Coast Track. As you walk, your guide will show you how to use all of your senses for a nocturnal experience of the local fauna, flora and geology. Absorb the magical night while stargazing and listening to stories about the region’s history, plants and animal life.
Munch on midnight tea at Curracurrang Cove, then have a choice of walks: to Wattamolla (for a total of 2km), an option that is suitable for everyone; or to a moonlit creek nestled in rainforest (for a total of 4km), for more challenge. Both walks return you to Wattamolla, where you’ll sleep on the sand overlooking Providential Cove and perhaps stay up to watch the moon set.
The overnight camp is set up on the beach with toilet and shower facilities close by. You can bring your own sleeping equipment or sleeping bags and mats are available for hire.
Awaken as the sunrise lights up the spectacular cove. While you’re reveling in the sunrise, your chef will make a breakfast feast. After breakfast, head back to Sydney along Grand Pacific Drive, one of Australia's most scenic coastal roads.
