Day 1: Adelaide -- Rawnsley Park Station (L, D)
After being picked up at your central Adelaide hotel or the city’s bus station, your journey begins by heading north along the coast, passing the historic coastal town of Port Germein, whose jetty is the longest in the southern hemisphere. Travel through Mt Remarkable National Park, and stop for lunch and views of the park’s ancient mountains. In the afternoon, take a drive through the Pichi Richi Pass to the old railway town of Quorn, where the original Ghan Railway began its journey through Central Australia. The trip through the deserted Willochra Plain takes you to the heart of the Flinders Ranges, with stops to view ancient Aboriginal rock art. Reaching your night’s accommodation at Rawnsley Park Station, relax with dinner and an evening chat around the campfire.

Day 2: Rawnsley Park Station -- Wilpena Pound -- Rawnsley Park Station (B, L, D)
After breakfast, spend a full day exploring the mountains, plants and wildlife of Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheater of mountains. Wilpena is a bushwalker’s dream, so take the opportunity to explore the peaks, trails and famous gorges, including Bunyeroo and Brachina gorges. The gorges’ geological formations take you on a trip through time, made up of some of the oldest rocks and fossils in the world. While walking, you might spot kangaroos, emus and wedge-tailed eagles. Returning to Rawnsley Park Station for the night, your journey takes you through the Moralana Scenic Track, following the southwestern wall of Wilpena Pound.

Leaving Rawnsley Park Station after breakfast, travel south through the southern Flinders Ranges, where ancient red gums line winding creek beds. Stop in at Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges, and see historic outback artifacts in the town’s old blacksmith shop. In the afternoon, the return trip takes you through the fertile wine-growing region of the Clare Valley, and includes a stop at a winery for a wine and produce tasting before dropping you in Adelaide.
