Day 1: Sydney – Featherdale Wildlife Park – Blue Mountains (L)
Your tour begins with pickup from your Sydney hotel and a drive into the western hinterland. Your first stop is an up-close encounter with native animals at Featherdale Wildlife Park, where you can stroke a koala, feed wallabies and see emus strutting around the park.
Leaving Featherdale, continue to the northern reaches of Blue Mountains National Park. Stop for a morning refreshment of apple pie and tea or coffee (included) in the orchard mountain town of Bilpin, and enjoy stunning views over the valleys clad in eucalyptus trees. Search for grazing kangaroos on the drive to the Blue Mountains, before your stop at the local golf club restaurant for a delicious two-course lunch. In the afternoon, you have the option to ride the world’s steepest incline railway at Scenic World (own expense), then take in panoramic Blue Mountains views from the famous Three Sisters lookout and go for a stroll through the rainforest. The afternoon also includes a visit to Katoomba’s Waradah Aboriginal Centre, where you can watch a traditional corroboree dance, browse the Aboriginal art and artifacts, and try painting in the traditional style with ocher paints on the center’s painting wall. In the late afternoon, arrive at your choice of accommodation in Katoomba, where you’ll have the rest of the day and evening to spend on your own.
