3-Day Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley Small-Group Eco-Tour

Take a three-day eco-adventure from Sydney to explore Blue Mountains National Park and the Hunter Valley wine region. During this tour of the beautiful countryside surrounding Sydney, you’ll meet Australia’s native animals, learn about Aboriginal heritage, sample boutique wines and go on a dolphin-spotting cruise off Port Stephens. This tour is limited to 14 people, providing a small-group experience with your knowledgeable guide.

Day 1: Sydney – Featherdale Wildlife Park – Blue Mountains (L)
Your tour begins with pickup from your Sydney hotel and a drive into the western hinterland. Your first stop is an up-close encounter with native animals at Featherdale Wildlife Park, where you can stroke a koala, feed wallabies and see emus strutting around the park.

Leaving Featherdale, continue to the northern reaches of Blue Mountains National Park. Stop for a morning refreshment of apple pie and tea or coffee (included) in the orchard mountain town of Bilpin, and enjoy stunning views over the valleys clad in eucalyptus trees. Search for grazing kangaroos on the drive to the Blue Mountains, before your stop at the local golf club restaurant for a delicious two-course lunch. In the afternoon, you have the option to ride the world’s steepest incline railway at Scenic World (own expense), then take in panoramic Blue Mountains views from the famous Three Sisters lookout and go for a stroll through the rainforest. The afternoon also includes a visit to Katoomba’s Waradah Aboriginal Centre, where you can watch a traditional corroboree dance, browse the Aboriginal art and artifacts, and try painting in the traditional style with ocher paints on the center’s painting wall. In the late afternoon, arrive at your choice of accommodation in Katoomba, where you’ll have the rest of the day and evening to spend on your own.

Accommodation: Lilianfels Resort or Mountain Heritage in Katoomba

Day 2: Blue Mountains – Wollemi National Park – Hunter Valley (B, L)
Following breakfast at your hotel, visit Wollemi National Park, renowned for its spectacular canyons, cliffs and pristine forest. On this spectacular drive you'll see sections of the original convict-built Old Great North Road, built in the 1820s. Stop for morning tea before continuing to the Hunter Valley wine region, where you’ll enjoy tastings at boutique wineries and lunch at a Hunter Valley winery. In the afternoon, head to your accommodation in the wine region town of Pokolbin, where you have the remainder of the day and evening to spend at leisure.

Accommodation: Peppers Guest House or Hunter Resort in Pokolbin

Day 3: Hunter Valley – Port Stephens – Sydney (B, L)

After an early breakfast, enjoy a scenic trip to Port Stephens. Transferring to a 4WD off-road vehicle, take an exciting ride across the Stockton Sand Dunes, the largest coastal dunes in the Southern Hemisphere. Then swap sand for sea on a dolphin-watching cruise to look for bottlenose dolphins playing in the waves off Port Stephens and enjoy lunch aboard the Moonshadow boat. Then sit back and relax on the journey back to Sydney.

A note about eco-tours: This tour is operated with a low impact to the environment and local inhabitants, promotes cultural values and traditions, and provides opportunities to learn about the flora and fauna and the geological significance of the region.
