The Albania Archaeological Tour is for those with a special interest in archaeology. Two highlights of the tour are Butrinti and Berat. The well preserved ancient city of Butrinti is a World Heritage which dates from 5th century BC. Berat is known as "the town of one thousand windows" due to the many large windows of the old decorated houses overlooking the town. Many of the sites we visit were not seen by many overseas visitors until the end of the 20th century. Minimum group size is 8 (please equire for rates for smaller groups). Larger groups are discounted.

Day 1

Arrive Tirana airport, transfer to hotel in Tirana. At leisure until welcome dinner. Overnight in Tirana.

Day 2

Morning tour of Tirana city including National Museum, Mosque of Ethem Bey, Clock Tower, various government buildings, and Blokku area then travel to Durres to visit the Roman Amphitheatre and Castle, the Archaeological Museum and the site at Arapaj. Dinner and overnight in Durres at beachside hotel.

Day 3

We depart for the archaeological sites at Apollonia and Byllis, we will visit the remains of the ancient city and the museum. After lunch we make the journey south to Saranda via the coastal Riviera route. We pass through spectacular scenery including Vlora, Llogara National Park and towards Himare visiting Castle of Ali Pasha and the spring waters of Borsh. Dinner and overnight in Tirana.

Day 4

Today we travel to the ancient city of Butrinti, one of the highlights of this tour. The World Heritage site is well preserved and dates from 5th century BC. You will see Roman remains and mosaics, the collonade, theatre, Temple of Asclepeon, the Aqueduct and the Venetian castle and plenty more. Return to Saranda. Dinner at Lekuresi Castle and overnight in Saranda.

Day 5

We drive over the mountains to the town of "one thousand steps" - Gjirokaster. Our visit will include the Castle and Military Museum, The Ethnographic Museum, the 18th century Bazaar and Antingonea Archaeological Park. Dinner and overnight in Gjirokaster.

Day 6

We travel on to the World Heritage town of Berat. Known as "the town of one thousand windows". En route we visit Mesopotam and the Medieval Monastery. On arrival in Berat dinner and overnight.

Day 7

Full day in Berat visiting the ancient castle, The Onufri Icon Museum, Byzantine Churches and Mosques and the River Osum Gorge. Dinner and Overnight in Berat.

Day 8

After breakfast we travel back to Tirana. Time for shopping and sightseeing before transfer to Tirana airport.
