Day 1: Cai Be Floating Market – Vam Cai Ga
Begin with a 2+ hours trip from Ho Chi Minh City to Tien Giang. Upon arrival in Tien Giang, board a boat to visit Cai Be Floating Market. The boat trip will take you along to theVam Cai River where you can take a glimpse into the life of the working locals. You may even catch the moment where fishermen cast their nets or place bamboo shrimp traps on the river. Have lunch at local house.
In the afternoon, you will have a chance to be a fisherman casting nets and laying traps on the river or canal. Of course, as you are already trying to be like a local in the area, you may as well join in cooking with the host. Enjoy dinner and listen Southern folk songs in the warm atmosphere. Overnight in homestay.
Day 2: Live the life of local people in the countryside.
After breakfast, take a bike trip to a local market called “Cho Chom Hom”. It is similar to the flea market where local people gather together and trade. Here, you can find simple features in trading of the southerners. This will be an interesting moment. Return to homestay where you will participate in farming with the local people to experience the work of farmers in the area. Have lunch in the local house.
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to dress in “ba ba” clothes and “non la” – typical style of the Southerners in Vietnam. You will bail out water and catch fishes in the traditional outfits. Once completed, you will lend a hand and join in cooking with the host. Then, we will have dinner and relax on a hammock hung near the river shore. Surely, you will feel the peace and quiet the city does not have to offer. Overnight in homestay.
Day 3: Cai Mon Orchard Garden
After breakfast together with the host, you will take a trip to visit Cai Mon Orchard Garden, also called the King of Fruits of Ben Tre Province. You will head on to visit the fighting-cock farm where you can observe how to feed the fighting-cocks, how to prepare them before a fight, and how to take care of them after the fight. You will be interested in the explanation on the fighting-cock game – a relaxing game of the local people. Have lunch in the local house.
After lunch, visit Cai Mon Church built by the French in the 16th century. Continue further, you will visit the bonsai and saplings garden in Vinh Bac – Vinh Nam, also known as the center of pot plants of Ben Tre. Here, you will have a chance to obtain some information and experiences about bonsai plants and saplings and inquire with masters in this field.
