Sierra de la Culata - Nature's Beauty and City Life

The low areas of the Sierra La Culata are covered by cloud forests, with many bromeliads and Spanish moss. Paramo vegetation dominates the higher altitude areas. After a hike in the Sierra la Culata, a visit of Merida city offers a cultural crown to this interesting excursion.

In the morning, you will visit the Sierra La Culata National park, into the high valley of the Mucujun River. The paved street ends at 3,000m altitude, where you will begin your 1-hour hike through Paramo vegetation. On the return trip to Merida city, you will see the Rey Valley, where trout is farmed, and have lunch there. In the afternoon, you will visit the highlights of Merida city, including the Mercado Principal, the Heladeria Coromoto which is featured in the Guinness Book of World Records as the ice cream parlor with the most ice cream flavors in the world. You will also visit the Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepción, the Casa de los Gobernadores and the Bolivar monument in Plaza Bolivar.
