Interestingly, the striking, colorful exterior of this grand mansion is atypical of the pre-Civil War period, putting it in a class of its own. Inside, you’ll discover one of the finest antique collections in the country as your guide regales you with stories – both tragic and triumphant – about the lives of generations of slaves and plantation owners.
Next, it’s on to Houmas House Plantation and Gardens. Explore the mansion, nicknamed ‘Sugar Palace,’ on a guided tour through 16 lavish rooms filled with period furnishings and artwork from Louisiana artists. Then, take a stroll under gorgeous oak canopies and savor the warm breeze before hopping in the van for the drive back to New Orleans.

After your tour, explore the grounds at your own pace: take a walk under a spectacular canopy of oak trees, walk through the well-preserved slave quarters, and admire the main building’s grand Greek Revival architecture.
