After meeting at the front entrance of the San Francisco Ferry Building, your guide, a local historian, will lead you on a tour of this world-renowned San Francisco icon while explaining its interesting history.
Built in the Beaux Arts style in 1898, the Ferry Building was designed after the 12th-century Giralda bell tower in Seville, Spain. At the height of the its glory in the 1930s, more than 50 million ferry passengers passed through it each year, and today it has survived two major earthquakes. Now, it's a bustling meeting place featuring a slew of restaurants, cafes and specialty shops where you can get everything from fresh snapper fillets to local vegetables to rustic bread to irresistible Californian wines and cheeses.
On your leisurely stroll through the building, visit at least five vendors to meet the owners and chefs, hear their stories, and sample their products. You'll get more than just the free samples handed out to the public - you'll get generous tastings of local wines, cheeses handcrafted ice cream and more.
Stop by the outdoor dining decks for views of San Francisco Bay and the Bay Bridge before heading to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, located in front of the Ferry Building. - Ferry Building Food tour meets at 11am Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and at 1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Advise at time of booking or after booking of your desired date for the food tour
- Children under 13 years are not permitted on this tour

- Alcatraz is steep and hilly. A moderate amount of walking is involved, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended
