Meet your knowledgeable local guide at Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (the Art Museum of Puerto Rico) and walk with your small group to the city's oldest food market, La Placita (officially known as Plaza del Mercado). As you stroll through the streets, your guide will point out Puerto Rico's colorful architecture and tell you some historical facts about the island along the way.
Arriving at the market, which dates back to 1910, weave through stalls packed with fresh local produce. As you learn about the variety of tropical foods from your guide, sample the local flavors - from savory seasonal fruits to local vegetables- plus pique (hot sauce made from spicy peppers) if you dare!
As you sip fresh Puerto Rican coffee, your guide will entertain you with stories about the historical market and share secrets about how to prepare ingredients. Then, continue to some of the shops and stalls to search for local finds, such as Panama hats and local hand-rolled cigars.
