Have the time of your life at Dirty Dancing the musical in London’s West End. Follow the smouldering love between Baby and Johnny during a sweltering Sixties summer. This mesmerising production is based on the film that gave us unforgettable songs such as Hungry Eyes, She’s Like the Wind and the heart-stopping The Time Of My Life.
It’s the summer of 1963, and 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman is off with her well-to-do family for a lakeside holiday but little does she know that she is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing. Baby’s life is about to change forever as she falls head over heels for the resort’s star entertainer, the working-class Johnny. The stage is set for a drama with breathtaking consequences.
Initially Baby is bored by the activities on offer at the resort until she discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters as an all-night dance party is in full swing. Enthralled by the sexy dance moves and the pounding rhythms, Baby can’t for a piece of the action, especially with Johnny. The chemistry between her independent spirit and his brazen defiance is scintillating.
And then there’s the music, which brings the Sixties back to life. Apart from original tracks, there are also contemporary classics such as Hey! Baby by Bruce Channel and These Arms of Mine by Otis Redding as well as songs by the Chantels, the Drifters and Marvin Gaye among many.
