Ride an open-top aerial cable car to the peak of Mt Stanserhorn and take in the spectacular views of the Swiss Alps! On this full-day coach tour from Zurich, you'll see the gorgeous countryside and visit the charming city of Lucerne, including its Old Town. In Stans, hop on an oldtimer funicular railway car and then take the Stanserhorn 'CabriO' - an open-air gondola - the rest of the way up to the Rondorama rotating restaurant and Marmot Park. After having made your way to the meeting point in central Zurich or been picked-up at your hotel, depart with your knowledgeable guide aboard a comfortable coach through the scenic countryside of central Switzerland. Relax on the journey along the Albis - a chain of wooded hills - and pass the shores of Lake Lucerne. Admire the picturesque, 24-mile (39-km) lake positioned between steep limestone cliffs.
When you arrive in Lucerne, divided into two parts by the Reuss River and its beautiful Chapel Bridge, enjoy a short city tour with your guide. Visit the Lion of Lucerne monument, a tribute to Swiss guards who defended the Tuileries in Paris in 1792, and see other key landmarks.
With some free time, explore the Old Town at your leisure, and discover the quaint alleys, squares, churches and homes of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque design. See the 15th-century town hall and count the nine watchtowers atop the well-preserved 14th-century town walls.
Then, continue by coach to Stans, a town surrounded by orchards, and board the vintage funicular railway, built in 1893 and recently restored. You'll delight in an unforgettable ride through flowering meadows to the valley, and disembark at the station.
From here, take the CabriO - the world's first open-top aerial cable car - to the summit of Mt Stanserhorn, rising 6,230 feet (1,900 meters) above sea level. During the 25-minute ride, relish the remarkable view from the roofless upper deck of the gondola as you ascend. Take in the panorama from the mountaintop as you look down at more than 10 lakes and 62 miles (100 km) of the Swiss Alps mountain range.
Next, go on a short hike to Stanserhorn's peak and visit the Marmot Park for a chance to watch the animals in their natural habitat. If you choose, dine on a typical Swiss meal (own expense) in the Rondorama, a revolving restaurant with fabulous views.
After returning to Stans, take the public train back to Lucerne for some additional free time in the charming city. In the evening, your guide takes you back by coach to Zurich. Additional Info
