Discover the la isla bonita, the beautiful island of La Palma, on this day trip from Tenerife. This undiscovered gem is peaceful, quiet and totally unspoilt. Explore whitewashed fishing villages and the pretty capital city of Santa Cruz. Then there's the amazing scenery. Evergreen forests, lush plantations of tropical fruit and rugged ravines as well as one of the world's largest volcanoes, the Caldera de Taburiente, a lush oasis like something out of the the world that time forgot.
After an early start we'll arrive at La Palma airport. From here we'll head straight for the island's charming capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma. We'll go on a panoramic tour of historic centre with its well preserved buildings and cobblestoned streets. Watch out for the traditional balconies made out of Canary pine. Next stop is the shrine of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, Our Lady of the Snow, the patron saint of the island and subject of great devotion for the local people.
We'll continue on to the Mirador of La Cumbrecita for truly stunning views down into the Caldera de Taburiente. This enormous volcanic caldera is about 10km across and the surrounding mountains tower up to 200m over the caldera floor.
Then we'll take the snaking roads down through intricate banana plantations, heading for the coastal settlement of Llanos de Aridane, where we'll stop for lunch. We'll drive southwards towards Fuencaliente for more breathtaking views over the volcanoes of San Juan and Teneguia. This area only emerged from the sea in 1971 and gives a stark image of the world as it must have been millions of years ago. Finally on our way back to the airport we'll stop at the Molino de Mazo pottery where you will have the opportunity to purchase some of the fine ceramics made on this beautiful island.
