Morning tour: Freixenet cava cellars and Sitges
You’ll depart Barcelona and begin your tour with a visit to the Freixenet cava cellars; cava is a Spanish sparkling wine. Your local guide will share the history of this family-run business, and then take you to the old cellars where you’ll learn how cava is made. Next, you will board a small train to travel through part of the 12 miles (20 km) of underground cava cellars before arriving at the tasting room, where you can taste the different cavas of the Freixenet range. Before you leave, you will have the option to purchase some of your favorites!
Next stop is the quaint coastal village of Sitges, one of Catalonia's most famous destinations. This village enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year and is home to 17 beaches. Take a walking tour through the village, and then enjoy some free time to explore on your own.
Afternoon tour: Artistic Barcelona
The second part of your Barcelona day tour is an artistic tour through the city, where you will explore the numerous treasures of famous architect Antoni Gaudí. The tour begins on the Paseo de Gracia, where you’ll see Gaudí's iconic buildings, including Casa Batlló and La Pedrera. You’ll also have a 30-minute visit at the bizarre and extraordinary Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will then continue to La Sagrada Familia, Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece and Barcelona's most famous landmark.
You will also visit the famous Santa María del Mar, the only gothic church in Catalonia that is completely finished; this church is not a Gaudí structure, but is still very worthy of a visit. The tour ends near the Picasso Museum, which exhibits works from the painter's delightful Blue and Pink periods (ticket not included).
Please note that from April 1, 2014 this tour will have some changes in the itinerary
