This tour offers you insight into the most important period of Serbian history, the time when Serbia was gaining independence from the Byzantine Empire, expanding its borders and becoming an important political, cultural and economic power on the Balkan Peninsula. It is about the GOLDEN AGE of Serbia and times of kings of the Nemanjic dynasty, before and after the defeat at the Battle of Kosovo and before it disappeared from the historical scene. All seven monasteries we are going to visit were built until 15th century and are located deep in the countryside and represent an unique combination of Romanesque architecture and Byzantine fresco painting - records of supreme craftmanship of medieval painters from Constantinopoli, Salonica and Serbia.
Old Ras, St. Peter's Church, St. George's Pillars, Sopocani and Studenica Monastery are included into the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
