Russian Museum Private Tour with Transportation

The Russian Museum is the largest national museum in the world. It numbers almost 400.000 works of art and covers the period starting from ancient icons all the way up to avant-garde.

The museum building belonged to Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich, son of Paul I. In the end of the 19th century Alexander III bought the building from his relatives with the purpose of establishing a museum of Russian art there. Although the museum was open only it after the death of Alexander III, he is still considered the founder since the idea belonged to him.

Today the museum collection occupies several buildings — Mikhailovsky Palace, Benois Wing, Mikhailovsky Castle, Stroganovsky Palace and Marble Palace. Two of these buildings are included into our tour — Mikhailovsky Palace, which contains art collection from ancient times to the 19th century and the Benois Wing, where Russian avant-garde collection is displayed.

During the tour you see masterpieces by the most prominent Russian artists, such as Levitsky, Borovikovsky, Brullov, Bruni, Aivazovsky, Shishkin, Savrasov, Repin, Levitan, Vrubel, Serov, Rerikh, Petrov-Vodkin, Malevich and many more. You will also see some interiors of Mikhailovsky Palace which still retain their original look.
