Church Savior on Blood located in historical center St. Petersburg on bank of Griboyedov Canal near Mikhailovsky Garden and Konyushennaya Square near Mars Field. Height of nine-headed temple makes 81 meters, it can hold a 1600 people.
The temple was built by decree emperor Alexander III in 1883 — 1907 according to project of architect Alfred Parland, on place ,where emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded, on 1 March 1881. Project executed in «Russian style», with imitation Moscow St. Basil's Cathedral.
The mosaic furniture at temple (over 7 thousand sq.m) was created according to sketches at 30 artists, including V. Vasnetsov, M. Nesterov, N. Kharlamov. In finishing interiors are used: Italian marble and Russian semi-precious stones.
