• Find out about Lisbon’s great Cafés, such as the 18th-century Café Nicola (this café was opened in 1787 by an Italian man, one of Lisbon’s most literary cafés and a place for tertúlias) and discover why Pastelaria Suiça is another landmark of Rossio. You will know more about Portugal’s strong café-culture.
• Try the famous Portuguese Codfish Cake with a glass of refreshing Green Wine.
• Learn about the Bairro Alto quarter. In the 20th century the Bairro Alto became Lisbon’s bohemian quarter, the centre for the nightlife, full of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
• Stop at an atmospheric wine-bar in the Bairro Alto for tapas and a glass of our local white wine.
• Visit one of the most famous restaurants in Lisbon, Cervejaria da Trindade (brewery), famous for its seafood and steaks. Built in 1294, this was one of the largest and most important convents in Lisbon, the Convent of the Most Holy Trinity.
• Go down the steps of Calçada do Duque. This street has a variety of restaurants with great esplanades and music, and is very popular especially during the summer months, because of the great view over the Castle Hill.
• Take a look at all the delicious and exotic products on display at an old gourmet shop, from dried, salted Bacalhau – now one of Portugal´s most traditional dishes - to the sausages, hams and cheeses, and learn all their secrets.
• Learn the history of Port, Portugal’s famous fortified wine, and then try it with the delicious São Jorge Cheese.
• Learn the history of Ginjinha, the favourite liqueur of many Portuguese and a typical drink in Lisbon, and try it at the first place that started to sell it in 1840.
• Go to Portas de Santo Antão Street, one of the city’s main entrances, the Gates of Santo Antão. In this area was located a part of the old Fernandine wall. Today you may consider it our Broadway and a street with a lot of restaurants.
• Finish your Gourmet tour in style, in the Neo-Moorish house, a 17th-century palace that hides one of the most intriguing interiors in the city. Here you will sit down for a taste of Portuguese Bread and Chouriço, accompanied by delicious red wine.
