The tour starts in Fátima, where in 1917 the Virgin appeared to the three shepherd children at Cova da Iria. The sanctuary was visited by the Popes Paul VI in 1967, John Paul II and Benedict XVI. Of all the visits, the most emblematic one had been the visit of John Paul II in 1982, the year which he offered to the image of Our Lady of the bullet that nearly killed in the attack occurred in the previous bullet one that is embedded in the crown. The Pope had visited Fátima again in 1991, and in 2000 when the shepherds Francisco and Jacinta Marto were beatified.
Leaving Fátima, the journey follow the way to the Village of Pia do Urso.
The name Pia do Urso is related to many legends, one about talks about the existence of a bear who drank water in the sinks. Surrounded by the plateau of São Mamede, this village with a natural landscape absolutely stunning was completely restored in stone and wood. Here is also an park eco-sensorial fully adapted for blind people in combination with a pedestrian circuit.
After the visit to Pia do Urso, we follow up to Grutas da Moeda. Located in São Mamede, these caves were discovered in 1971 by two hunters who were chasing a fox. The beauty of the caves is based on the various calcite and clay materials that compose it. With a length of 350mt, reaches 45mt of depth and a temperature of about 18 degrees, which remains constant through the year.
