OLD ORHEI and Curchi Monastery - two destinations in one tour

The ancient city Old Orhei  — a unique natural and historical complex in the open air. It organically combines the natural landscape and vestiges of ancient civilizations. As a result of enormous archeological excavations here there were discovered the cultural layers of different epochs such as — the Paleolithic, Eneolithic, and Iron Age.
The culture of geto-dacs of Early and Late Middle Ages is represented by the rests of earthen and wooden fortresses of geto-dacs period and the traces of two medieval towns — Shehr al-Djedid town of the Golden Horde period and the Moldovan town Orhei.

Curchi Monastery  — the legend sees that the monastery was founded in the time of Steven the Great. Here are three churches, the first is — «Virgin's Assumption» Cathedral, is almost an exact replica of «St. Andrew» Cathedral in Chiev, built by the lay-outs of Bartolomeo Rastrelli. In all churches there is an amazing acoustics, and the voices of monks singing during the service, enshroud you in full, fascinate and make you forget about the vanity of life.

The breathtaking visit to the cradle of civilization – Orheiul Vechi is followed by a stay at the rural pension “Casa din Lunca” situated in the Trebujeni village. We stop at a typical Moldavian family so as to learn at least a tiny part of the vast whole of Moldavian customs and traditions. We will definitely not leave the place, until we taste the remarkable Moldavian chicken soup called “zama with taitei”, as well as another traditional dish “sarmale in foi de vita de vie” and vegetables collected directly from the garden. You will also have the pension’s special dish – fresh warm pies “placinte” served along with the delicious home-made red wine just taken out of the barrel.
