Teotihuacan Pyramids and Guadalupe Shrine

This full-day guided tour will take you to the spiritual heartland of Mexico, visiting two of this fascinating country's most important monuments: the shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the archaeological site of Teotihuacan, with its impressive pyramids.

After being picked up from your hotel we'll leave Mexico City, heading for the ruined city of Teotihuacan, also known as the City of the Gods. At its zenith in the 1st millennium AD, this was one of the largest cities in the Americas with over 100,000 inhabitants. Accompanied by your friendly local guide you'll explore the magnificent Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the Avenue of the Dead and the Temples of Quetzacoatl and the Butterflies.

Then we'll move on to the Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe, the most visited religious site in Latin America The Shrine was built in 1531 after a local peasant saw a vision of a girl surrounded by light, asking that a church be built in her honour. She identified herself as the Virgin Mary and left an image of herself imprinted miraculously on his peasant cloak. The shrine itself is a wonderful example of Spanish Baroque Art and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Roman Catholics in the world.
