Board your air-conditioned coach at a central location in Playa Mia and relax on the 45-minute drive. Your first stop is the archeological site of San Gervasio, once the political, cultural and commercial center of the Maya on Cozumel. Follow your expert guide on foot around the island’s largest and most significant Mayan city, inhabited from 200 AD to the Spanish conquest during the 16th century.
Visit several temples, including a structure dedicated to Ixchel—goddess of fertility—and imagine the Mayan women who made their pilgrimage to this sacred place from the mainland. Hear about their offerings for fertility and abundant crops as you admire the site’s engravings amid lush jungle foliage and brilliantly colored flowers. Your guide will point out an altar located on a sacbe (ancient road) leading into the ceremonial center, where multiple statues to Ixchel have been discovered.
After your 45-minute tour, hop aboard your comfortable coach and head to the western side of Cozumel on a 1-hour scenic drive. Take in the Caribbean views from Cozumel’s uninhabited side, making a quick stop en route at El Mirador—a vista point with fantastic photo ops! When you’ve completed your route around the island, arrive at Playa Mia Grand Beach and Water Park for two hours of fun in the sun.
