Nettare di Calabria is owned and operated by Maria Pacileo. It is a boutique distillery located in Squillace, one of the most historical villages in the region of Calabria. It was in this village rich in history and tradition that Maria was inspired to create a product as it was once made, using the ancient recipes of a lost generation. She has succeeded in replicating traditional flavors that are now difficult to find. Since Nettare di Calabria opened its doors in 2001 in the narrow streets of the historical center of Squillace, the tradition lives on.
The owner and operator of Nettare di Calabria’s Boutique Distillery, Maria Pacileo, offersguided tours to visitors. Her main objective has always been to produce an excellent quality product that people can truly enjoy. She divulges the history of Calabrian liquors,the entire production process and a tasting of all 8 of our aromatic liquors.
It is recommended that our liquors be consumed when they are ice cold, and they should be paired with a dessert to heighten their characteristics and bring out the natural aromas. Nettare di Arancia , for example, having an intense full bodied flavor, is best when paired with dark chocolate. Nettare di Finocchio and Nettare di Alloro, naturally aid in digestion and pair well with almond biscuits. Nettare di Liquirizia is a flavor that stands on its own. Calabria is one of the primary producers of licorice and it has become known as a symbol of our region. The licorice root is rich with flavor and this lends to an end product that is truly uniqe.
