Macugnaga is a mountain village at 1327 m altitude, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, in the north of Piedmont region.
It is placed at the base of Dufourspitze 4638 m, the second tallest peak in Europe, in the Monte Rosa Massif, along Anzasca valley, one of the seven valleys around the mount.
The population of the area was originated from the Walser, Germanic people coming from the Swiss canton Wallis (we will visit the historical center with the typical Walser houses).
In the town there is the Walser Museum. The museum comprises seven show rooms with original furniture and fittings of 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century. Each room displays an aspect of everyday life of the Walser population in Macugnaga.
The village is also known for its mine (Miniera della Guia). It is the first gold mine opened at the Alpine tourism and cultural visits (Temperature 9 ° C — visitable for people with disabilities).
