The 14th c. Castello Estense has always represented the local power. First built and inhabited by the members of the Este family, it now is the seat of the Presidente della Provincia. The massive medieval brick fortress with its four towers surrounded by a water moat overlooks the city, marks the border to the Renaissance extension of the city and hosts in the courtyard the local Tourist Information Center I.A.T. The visit includes the ground and the main floor, the dungeons and, upon request, also the tower. Frescoes and paintings are still preserved.
