E1E2E4 - The Day off "IInfferno" Tour

First part from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm

Your exciting  guided tour  will start at Palazzo Pitti going backwards through the ideal “Prince’s Itinerary”, to see from the outside the suggestive elevated passageway which connects the Palazzo Vecchio with the Palazzo Pitti, in the Oltrarno district, passing  though the Uffizi Gallery and over the Ponte Vecchio.  You will cross Ponte Vecchio ,  one of the city's best known images , famous for its  gleaming gold shops. In the center  of  the bridge you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the city. Then you will reach the elegant Uffizi Palace,  designed by the architect Giorgio Vasari. The museums is considered one of the most important in the world,  hosts a plenty of  invaluable works of art, like the  Birth of Venus and the Allegory of Spring considered  the maximum symbol of sublime beauty. After the guided visit to the Uffizi Gallery you will enjoy a break of approx 30 minutes. Then you resume the guided visit right at the entrance door to the Vasari Corridor, the amazing elevated passageway  which you have seen  from the outside while walking from Piazza Pitti to Piazza Signoria.  You will have the privilege  to walk through the suggestive passageway,  following  the footsteps  of the “Prince’s itinerary”.  It was commissioned on the occasion of the wedding between Francis I and Joan of Austria and built with the idea of giving Florence a precious jewel .  It was  motivated  by the Grand Duke's desire to move freely between his residence and the government palace  as passing through the streets could be dangerous and dirty. You will instantly be hit by a deep sense of emotion: the corridor is a royal passageway that  runs over the heads of the citizens of Florence.  You will be dazzled to discover  a superb collection of paintings and  a row  of round windows of the aerial passageway offering breathtaking views over the hills, the Arno river, its bridges, the palaces and churches of the city. You will admire  the magnificent collection of artists’ self-portraits from Vasari to Italian and foreign artists of the 20^th century.  A face to face encounter with artists that doesn’t exist in any other museum in the world, a discovery that will print an indelible memory of Florence in your mind forever

 

Second part  from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm

The Tour follows the path of Robert Langdon in Florence, as read in the latest novel by Dan Brown: Inferno.

You will travel through the hectic escape of Robert Langdon in the most beautiful and mysterious monuments

of the town, with a professional tour guide. The tour starts in Palazzo Vecchio, built in 1299 to be the base for

the Republic of Florence, and then restored by Vasari for the Grand Duke Cosimo de’ Medici, with the

magnificent salone dei 500: here are the huge frescos by Vasari, with the mysterious message “cerca trova”

(seek and you shall find); but also statues representing the most important members of the Medici family and

a beautiful statue by Michelangelo. You will then visit the private apartments of the Grand Duchesse

Eleonora, and will see the death mask of Dante Alighieri, to end the visit in the room of the maps, where lies

the secret passage used by Langdon to escape from the palazzo. Once out of Palazzo Vecchio, you'll walk in

the same streets as Langdon, noticing the bell tower from where Mr Zobrist suicides to start the book, but

also the place where Leonardo da Vinci lived when he painted the Mona Lisa. The tour moves on to see the

home of Dante Alighieri and his church, until suddenly you get out of the medieval streets and get

overwhelmed by the huge Duomo and his cupola. The tour will move to the Baptistery, to see the plaque

related to the "black death" and the shining gates of paradise, one of the masterpieces of the renaissance,

before entering to see the gorgeous mosaic on the ceiling, and all the other works of art inside. After the tour

ends, and for the next 24 hours, your ticket will grant you access for climbing up on top of the cupola and the

campanile, where you will enjoy an unbelievable view of Florence, and for visiting the Opera del Duomo

Museum and the remains of the ancient cathedral.
