City Sightseeing Pisa

Discover all the great things to do and see in Pisa with City Sightseeing

Discover Pisa with City Sightseeing

Two routes — one ticket! The City Sightseeing Bus Tour of Pisa will help you to discover the City, situated just a few Kilometres away from the Tirreno Sea and San Rossore Natural Park. The tour starts from the bell tower journeys through the city and it's Squares, suburbs, museums and the Lungarni. Visit the beautiful Piazza del Duomo which is home to the famous Leaning Tower. The Tower of Pisa, which was begun in 1173, stands at 180 feet high. It leans more than 14 feet out of line, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil. Take a 30 minute tour of the tower, climb the 300 steps and enjoy a fantastic view from the top. Visit the beautiful baptistery and the Cathedral while you’re in the vicinity. These pristine, white buildings make an excellent backdrop, on attractive green lawns. Hop off at the National Museum of Palazzo Reale which houses the offices of the Artistic Heritage Commission as well as rare collections. Admire portraits of Pisan nobles and tapestries and furnishings by 16th century Flemish and Florentine artists.

Explore the city with your 24 hour valid ticket over two routes

Hop off at The Citadel Vecchia, an ancient fortification built along the city walls at the water’s edge. Admire the unmistakable profile of the building, which is one of the city’s landmarks. The area surrounding it was once the hub of Pisa’s ship building activity. Visit San Paolo a Ripa d’Arno, one of the most remarkable Romanesque churches in Tuscany, and admire its beautiful façade, not forgetting the 11th century chapel at the rear, built by monks. Visit The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Spina, a gem in a bustling city. Marvel at the towering, Gothic pinnacles which rise from the roof, some of which are adorned with statues of the Virgin Mary. Inside the building, a sanctuary (simple in design by comparison) awaits, with its ceiling decorated during its reconstruction in the 19th century. The sanctuary is home to The Madonna of the Rose and The Madonna del Latte, which are masterpieces of Gothic sculpture. Take the Bus Tour to Piazza XX Settembre where you will find the town hall, the Palazzo del Comune and the Logge dei Banchi which has been host to the textile market since the 17th century. Across the river at Piazza Garibaldi, wander through the old streets and browse through the shops. Visit the classically styled Museo di San Matteo which houses prestigious paintings and sculptures. Located in the medieval monastery of Saint Matthew, the riverside edifice displays pieces by major Pisan artists as well as archaeological and ceramic works.

Panoramic views of the City from the comfort of the top deck of an open top bus

Let your City Sightseeing bus tour highlight all the things to do and see in the city and help you to make the most of your stay in Pisa. Hop on and off at your leisure with stops conveniently located around the city. Hop off at Giardino Scotto, a fortified area is also known as Fortezza Nuova, built by the Florentines after the conquest of Pisa 1406. The area is now home to leafy gardens where you can relax and enjoy concerts and films. Your visit won’t be complete without a visit to Knight’s Square (Piazza dei Cavalieri), one of the most famous landmarks in the city. The square was the political centre in medieval Pisa. It is now the centre of education, the main house of the Scuola Normale di Pisa and a higher learning institution part of the University. The city is not known for a pulsating nightlife, but the city streets are animated by the students who organise shows, cultural events and generate a general party atmosphere in Pisa’s bars.
