Discover all the great things to do and see in Genoa with City Sightseeing

Discover all the things to do and see in the city with City Sightseeing Genoa
The birthplace of Christopher Columbus, Genoa presents a multitude of hidden gems behind cozy alleways, excellent cuisine (particularly fish and seafood) and beautiful sights. Piazza Caricamento presents Genoa's striking cityscape, with pastel buildings piled up steep hillsides above the long curving waterfront which can be admired from a variety of viewpoints along the tour of this fascinating city. Visit one of the town’s medley of museums or peruse one of the art galleries. The town's best art collections can be visited in three palaces grouped together as the Musei di Strada Nuova: Palazzo Bianco, Palazzo Rosso and Palazzo Tursi, Garibaldi, where highlights include works by Rubens as well as many local artists. The double-decker bus tour, with easy access to both train stations, provides the opportunity to explore the key shopping areas and attractions such as the Cathedral San Lorenzo, a building in a patchwork of styles from Gothic to Renaissance and close by the huge Palazzo Ducale.

Explore Genoa with a 360 degree panoramic view of the city from the top of an open top double-decker bus

Genoa boasts one of Italy's UNESCO World Heritage sites. This status was awarded for the early town-planning of the Strade Nuove 'new streets' district, where grand palaces were erected in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries as part of a scheme where noble families, resident in the new palaces, would pay host to visiting dignitaries. Hop on and off at your leisure at any of the stops which are conveniently located along the tour route and discover all the things to do and see in the city. Take a stroll through Via Garibaldi, an elegant narrow street lined with grandeur. It is the cultural centre of tourist Genoa. Down by the rejuvenated Porto Antico (Old Port) you will find a number of attractions for all the family, including the Aquarium, which, along with the UNESCO listing, is arguably Genoa's proudest attraction. Here you can admire sharks and dolphins up close!

Plenty of things to do by day or night in beautiful Genoa

Genoa has arguably the most active nightlife scene in all of Liguria on the Italian Riviera. Genoa is home to an array of restaurants and bars. The hub of activity lies in the historic part of town. The stretch that is bordered by Piazza Sarzano and Via San Lorenzo is populated with nightclubs and bars. During the week, most locals head to wine cellars and tapas bars. The atmosphere on the weekends, however, is one of markedly more vibrant as the streets fill with people heading down to the numerous discos dotting the historic district. If bar hopping and clubbing is not for you then you might enjoy spending the evening at Teatro Carlo Felice which is Genoa’s principal opera house where you can enjoy ballet, orchestral music, and recitals. Wile away a few hours in one of the city’s two cinemas or visit The Bigo. The Bigo is a replica of the device that was used many years ago to off-load cargo from the ships. It rotates as it ascends, allowing you to see spectacular views of the skyline of Genoa.
