Your meeting point is at the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena at 9:30am, easy to find even if you are arriving from out of town or with your own car as there is parking in the vicinity. Here you will meet the driver guide for the start of the tour.
This tour begins with climbing the hills of the Chianti and enjoying the beautiful views of forests, neat rows of vineyards and pretty medieval hamlets. Our first stop is in the characteristic walled village of Castellina in Chianti, here you have the opportunity of visiting the town and its covered medieval walkway. From here we continue to the town of Greve in Chianti, famous for its square of artisans and for being the home town of the famous sailor Verrazzano. Here you have free time to sample wines or visit the stores. We then continue up the hill to a pretty and quaint walled hamlet where we enjoy a walk along the cobbled streets and take in the breathtaking landscapes.
Our next stop is a very small family run winery where we have the opportunity of having lunch with the locals, enjoy our first tasting of the famous black rooster Chianti Classico wines and learn about the areas habits and traditions. It could occur that the farm for some reason is unavailable on the day, in this case we will enjoy our traditional Tuscan meal in a characteristic trattoria.
After lunch we visit another bigger winery where we are walked through the processes of the wine production and visit the cellars, here we learn more about these great reds, the way they are made and the differences in flavor of various blends and grape varieties. On our way back we stop once more to enjoy the glorious landscapes and walk around the beautiful and isolated Abbey of Passignano.
On some occasions, due to availability or last minute changes, the itinerary might vary a little. In this case the tour could be modified slightly. However the day will maintain a similar general imprint, same duration and have all the same inclusions.
