Bisceglie tour in the old town, sea and Dolmen (Apulia - Italy)

Guided tour of the Dolmen «Chianca» immersed in the olive groves of Apulian countryside.

The dolmen is a type of prehistoric megalithic tomb is a single bedroom. The Dolmen della Chianca is unique:

dated to Middle Bronze Age (XVI — XIV century BC) is the largest dolmens in Europe in size and beauty, in excellent condition. All the lithic material used is limestone from the surrounding area. The corridor — 7.50 m long — is formed from slabs dishes, fixtures vertically in the ground, a height significantly lower than those of the cell. Therefore, the total length is less than 10 m and has an entrance facing east.

After visiting the dolmens, transfer with a visit to the town of Bisceglie and visit the main monuments:

Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle: Built between 1073 and 1295 is a Romanesque-Apulian although the facade has been remodeled with the opening of three windows in the Baroque style. Inside are venerated the holy relics of the three patron saints of the city of Bisceglie: S. Bishop Mauro, S. Sergio S. Pantaleone.

Sant'Adoeno: Built in 1074, is the oldest church in Bisceglie. Was significantly rebuilt over the centuries, of which only the facade remained intact and the canopy and inside are numerous depictions of animals and the holy. The only thing left is a valuable Romanesque baptismal font dating from the eleventh century with six figures carved in high relief.
