Mount Bromo in East Java is one of the most recognizable volcanoes in Indonesia, and it’s only a few hours from Surabaya by car. The view from the village of Cemoro Lawang is legendary. The sweeping vista takes in the epic Sea of Sand, the smoking crater of Bromo itself, Mt Batok and the highest peak in Java, Gunung Semeru in the distance.
Bromo has been in a state of continual eruption since November 2010. Even though it is not possible to go to the crater rim at this time, visitors are still able to go to Cemoro Lawang and view the volcano from a distance of 3 kilometers. Trust us!
