Summary
Ladakh used to be once upon a time an important station amongst old silk route that used to have heavy traffic of traders that brought along various good during mild winters. The Silk route was famously Leh-ALchi-Nubra-Pangong.
Leh is a laid back city. There are several places to see in Leh like Royal palace, shanty stupa, gompas and monasteries. From there you take to Alchi in the way you find Likir Monastery, Magnetic Hill, Hall of Fame and Pathar Sahib Gurudwara.
Alchi is a tiny village, 70 kms from Leh. Alchi monastery is one of the most ancient monasteries which has murals and Buddhist structures from the 11th and 12th century.
Pangong lake is at 14,500 feet and one passes through the Changla Pass in order to reach here. This is the only salt water lake at 17,350 feet. There is no habitation here. The color of the lake changes every season, the surroundings are breath taking making the visit here worth the while.
Way back to Leh, visit the Hemis and Thikse monastery. Thikse monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect. It’s a 12 storey building that has stupas, wall paintings, thangkas and swords. Maitreya Budhha has been installed to commemorate the 14th Dalai Lama.
Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival at Leh airport, to be received by our representative and transferred to the Hotel. Check in to the hotel for a Complete day of rest wherein welcome tea and coffee will be served by the Hotel. Lunch will be served at 2.00 PM, after lunch visit Leh Market, Leh Palace, Hall of Fame and Shanti Stupa. Overnight Hotel.
Day 02: Leh to Lamayuru to Ule (160 Kms) After breakfast drive to Lamayuru enroute visit Liker Monastery and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib. Check in Camp at Alchi or Ule and enjoy your hot Lunch. After Lunch drive to visit the mesmerising Moon landscapes and the Lamayuru monastery (Oldest Monastery in Ladakh). Overnight Camp or Hotel.
Day 03: Alchi to Leh (70 Kms) After the Breakfast drive to Leh enroute visit Alchi monastery, Basgo Palace and Hall of Fame. Arrive at Leh by afternoon. Hot Lunch at Hotel. After the free at your leisure. Overnight Hotel.
Day 04: Leh to Nubra Valley (120 Kms) After Breakfast drive to Nubra Valley via Khardungla (Highest Motorable road in the World, 18,380 ft). Arrive at Deskit by Afternoon. Rest of the day one is free to explore Deskit, Hunder Villages and camel Safari in Sand Dunes between Deskit and Hunder Village. Overnight Hotel.
Day 05: Nubra Valley to Leh (120 Kms) After Breakfast visit Deskit Monastery and drive back to Leh by same Route, crossing Khardungla Pass. Overnight Hotel.
Day 06: Leh to Pangong Lake (160 Kms) After Breakfast leave for Pangong Lake 14,500 ft, through Changla Pass 17,350 ft. (third Highest Motorable road in the world.) Overnight Camp.
Day 07: Pangong Lake to Leh (160 Kms) After Breakfast drive back to Leh, enroute visit Hemis, Thikse Monastery and Shey Palace. Overnight Hotel.
Day 08: 06,00 hrs. Transfer to airport and fly back to Delhi with Sweet Memories of Ladakh.
