No prior surfing experience is needed to enjoy paddle surfing - it's the latest water craze hitting oceans and lakes across the globe, and you can master it with this enjoyable lesson.
Your lesson takes place in the lovely setting of La Jolla Shores, a popular beach in the northern San Diego area. You will begin with an introduction to stand-up paddleboarding (also known as stand-up paddle surfing) to get a good grasp of the basic paddling principles. Then you'll start the in-water portion of your lesson close to shore on the flat water.
You'll cover topics of surf sense, ocean awareness, board handling and the float plan. You will learn the proper stance, how to balance, how to get up, efficient paddling techniques, steering and how to turn around quickly. Once you have your balance, you'll realize that stand-up paddling is a very pleasant way to tour the ocean. It can be tricky, but with a few tips from your instructor you will soon be rippin' the waves! Stand-up paddleboarding is much less demanding than regular surfing, but just as much fun.
This paddleboarding location is in one of the most idyllic spots on the west coast; La Jolla Cove and ecological preserve is a scenic and environmentally protected aquatic park with clear water and sweeping views of cliffs and caves. Keep your eyes open for the occasional sea lion, dolphin, garibaldi or sea bass.
