Agios Nikolaos Market and Kritsa

If you like sightseeing mixed up with shopping, then this morning trip is ideal. After leaving your resort and traveling through Crete's countryside, you'll come to Agios Nikoloas. Tucked into the northeast coast, this buzzing town is set between huge Mirabello Bay and a ridge of hills. When you arrive, you'll get a couple of hours or so to explore on your own. Potter around its open-air market, pick up some souvenirs in its shops or take a stroll around its harbour, dipping in and out of the waterfront cafes. Then, after leaving 'Ag. Nik" behind, you'll make tracks for Kritsa, a hub of Cretan crafts. Tumbling down a hillside, the main street of this mountain village is jam-packed with handicraft stalls during the summer. Enjoy more free time here, perhaps buying some of Crete's embroidered linens, hand-woven rugs or hand-made pottery as mementoes. Then its time to wend your way back home.
