Berlin Wall & Cold War Tour Bike Tour

The Berlin Wall split not just the city and Germany in two but the entire world for almost 30 years. The emotional, physical and psychological scars it left behind will take generations to heal. This dramatic and informative cycling tour will help you to grasp the astonishing story of what the East German authorities called the ‘Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart’.

This five-hour Berlin Wall and Cold War tour goes out further to reach extraordinarily impressive locations otherwise left out from bus, walking and boat tours. It covers about 14km (eight miles) in about five hours with stops every few hundred meters to view on sights and learn about them.

Go east along the monumental, 2km-long Karl-Marx-Allee, where military parades were held in the shadow of wedding-cake style buildings. Stop, admire and take photos of the graffiti along colourful East Side Gallery, a kilometre-long stretch of what remains of the Wall. Visit the epic Treptower Park Memorial, where thousands of Soviet soldiers are buried. The reliefs lining the memorial are among the finest examples of the Stalinist art movement known as Socialist Realism (heroic, lantern-jawed soldiers, comely maidens, etc).

From there we return through the former no-man’s-land deathstrip to visit former checkpoints and hear tales of espionage and escape attempts. Pause for lunch at a café in the remains of an old train station split off from its tracks by the Wall. Even during lunch the contrasts between East and West that are explored on the tour will be palpable.
