This full-day guided visit will give you an intimate insight into one of the largest palaces in the world, allowing you access to areas normally closed off to the general public.

Your driver-guide will show you around, with special permission to visit private quarters away from the crowds. Versailles was built over five decades during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It is most closely associated with the flamboyant Louis XIV, the Sun King, who had an unquenchable appetite for grandeur. Even today, the dimensions of the palace are breathtaking. It has a floor area of more than 67,000sq.m; it has 2,300 rooms and 2,153 windows but just a mere 67 staircases. There are more than 20,000 works of art and over 5,000 pieces of furniture. All are priceless antiques. It even has an opera house with seating for more than 700.

Relive the glory and grandeur of the Bourbon monarchs, exploring the private apartments of the king as well as the impossibly golden opera house – where Louis XVI married Marie-Antoinette – and the chapel.
