Roman Sites and Historical Places

See the vestiges of the roman civilization in Provence with the breathtaking site of Pont du Gard and the Roman amphitheatre in Nîmes.

Departure for NIMES: great city of the arts, proud of its prestigious Roman past, see the antique buildings: the amphitheatre (entrance included) and the « Maison Carrée » (or Square House, one of the best preserved Roman temples), the Augustus’s gate...

UZES, wonderful medieval town and the first Duchy of France, set in the garrigues countryside (mediterranean vegetation). A ducal seat, a bishopric and consular seat, Uzès has preserved its lay-out as a medieval stronghold, embellished in the 17th and 18 th centuries. See the Place aux Herbes (picturesque square), the episcopal palace, the ducal palace, the Fenestrelle tower (a unique bell tower) and the Cathedral. Outside of Uzès is the catchment area of the Roman aqueduct (Pont du Gard) that brought spring water to Nîmes.

PONT DU GARD: dates back to the first century AD and classified by UNESCO, it's the most amazing and best preserved part of the Roman acqueduct which supplied with water the city of Nîmes.
