Tour through the hilltop villages which overlook the valley of Luberon for centuries and which were mentioned in Peter Mayle's book 'A year in Provence'.
You will start this escapade by Oppède le Vieux, a village carved into the rock and whose authenticity seduced some artists and writers that today, are trying to restore it. Not very far, you will discover Ménerbes, a fortress village, witness of numerous religious wars and Bonnieux. Free time for lunch on your own. In the afternoon, you will make a stop in Roussillon to admire its red cliffs and will reach Gordes overlooking the Luberon. Finally, you will end this itinerary by an unexpected drive up to the cistercian abbey of Senanque, surrounded by lavender fields. Sport shoes recommended.
