Time to chase the green fairy!
Our Bohemia tour of Prague starts, appropriately, at the statue of the Duke of Bohemia, martyr, and patron saint Wenceslas. Throughout the tour, you’ll learn about various influences on Prague, including architectural, art, and political influences.
We’ll start your Prague tour with a ride on a Paternoster, a unique and bizarre open-door lift from the 1920s, which was almost put out of order by the EU regulations because it breaks all the strict requirements of today (elevator closed on weekends).
Kicking off the sampling aspect of the tour, our first taste of Prague will be “smazeny syr”, Czech fried cheese, which we’ll grab at one of the stands popular with the locals. This cheese was on every menu during the Communist era, so naturally, during the cheese tasting, we will share some of the most absurd stories from that time.
Next in Bohemian Prague, we'll pass by the oldest pub in Prague that has been serving the most famous Czech beer, Pilsner Urquell, since 1843. Then, we’ll see the former Communist Secret Police department, where dissidents such as Vaclav Havel were interrogated. Once we enter the Old Town, we will dive deep into the medieval ages of Bohemia, into the lifestyle of normal people as well as of kings.
As this Prague tour navigates the city, you’ll learn about the most famous Czech person from the 14th century - Charles IV – who was recently voted by the Czech people as the most influential Czech in history. The Czechs call him the “Father of Bohemia”, which is why he’s an important guy to chat about on our Bohemian tour.
And what’s a Bohemian Prague tour without a little absinthe, right? We’ll find the green fairy after heading out through the winding alleys of the Old Town, where we’ll find an absinthe shop where you'll witness a unique spectacle - the traditional and Bohemian preparation of absinthe, a banned drink in many countries.
After a taste of the good green stuff, we'll move forward on this cultural tour of Prague through some of Prague's fascinating history and iconic areas, from the Charles Bridge (and its epic views!) to significant Communist-related statues. You'll hear mystical stories of the Golem, which will enrich your expeirience at the former Jewish ghetto, and then have the chance to check out an unusual (and rather famous) statue of Franz Kafka, one of Prague's most famous writers.
From there, we’ll head to a local, truly Bohemian pub to savour the taste of the most famous Czech beer – Pilsner Urquell. It's a truly Czech experience that you'll remember for a long time.
Continuing along, you'll experience the quirks and traditions of Bohemian Prague – like learning about the elixir of endless life and the stone of wisdom at the Museum of Alchemy. If you want to feel 100% Bohemian, you can bathe in beer while sipping the beverage in the nearby beer spa after the tour! We’ll also show you the only art shop in Prague where you can find toys that every child used to play with during the days of Communism.
A stop at the Municipal House is a must - it was decorated by Alfons Mucha, one of the most famous Czech artists. You'll see that on this Prague tour there's so much to admire - our art, architecture, and there are plenty of secrets to discover about Prague you never would have even guessed.
