A real history fest, this full-day tour will take you to two of Cyprus' most significant archaeological sites, the ruins of the ancient city of Curium and the site of the Temple of Aphrodite at Paphos.
The tour starts at the ancient town of Curium. This city has passed witnessed the rise and fall of several Mediterranean civilisations – Greeks, Romans and Byzantines have all left their mark here. Explore the extensive ruins and admire the well-preserved mosaics. Other must-see attractions include the public baths, the Nymphaeum, the Necropolis, the Fountain House, the House of Gladiators and House of Achilles. The most spectacular site however has to be the 2000 year-old Greco-Roman theatre overlooking the Mediterranean. Your guide will bring the ruins here back to life with vivid tales of their history, before it's time to head to Paphos.
The whole area is an open air museum and a designated Unesco World Heritage Site. First up are the Tombs of the Kings. A huge complex of honeycombed burial chambers cut out of the rock, imitating the dwellings of the living. We will also visit the House of Dionysos, a Roman villa dating back to the 3rd century, housing splendid mosaics, some of finest in the Eastern Mediterranean. The tour will end with some free time for a stroll along the harbour of the attractive resort of New Paphos or just to sit back and watch the world go by from a waterfront cafe.
