Split Evening Food Tour: Wine, Sweets and Snacks

Eat your way around Split on a 3-hour evening food tour, led by a local guide! With five tasting stops included, the tour showcases some of Split's finest foodie haunts located in and around the UNESCO-listed Diocletian Palace. Visit a boutique chocolatier run by a local rock star and a biscuit maker's shop to sample sugary treats, and then feast on a savory platter in a tavern. Sip on prošek dessert wine in a wine bar and finish up in a 'rakija' bar, trying up to five shots of local liquor.

Meet your local guide in central Split in the early evening, and then set off on your walking tour, visiting five different food sites to sample their specialties. As you walk both in and around Split's Diocletian Palace - a UNESCO-listed site that sprawls around the town center - chat with your guide about the country's cuisine.

First stop is Nadalina Čocolade, a much-loved chocolate shop owned by local rock 'n' roll legend, Marinko Biškić. A self-confessed chocolate addict, Marinko became the Dalmatia region's first boutique chocolatier, combining dark chocolate and pralines with typical Mediterranean ingredients like honey and lavender. Select some of the shop's exquisite pralines for your goody bag, and learn about the chocolate-making process.

Goody bag in hand, continue walking to Natura to sample artisan biscuits and sweets, and then visit the 3 Volta taverna bar for a platter of savory treats. Sample peppery olive oil with hunks of fresh bread, along with silky slices of pršut (ham) and pungent Croatian cheese. Wash down the samples with white wine and water, and then continue to another of the locals' favorite bars: Ghetto.

Savor the pralines from your Nadalina Čocolade goody bag with a glass of prošek, a dessert wine from the south of the Dalmatia region. After learning about the different types of drinks that accompany Croatian sweets and desserts, amble across the street to your final food stop, Rakijarnica.

Serving mainly rakija (a liquor made from fermented fruit and herbs), Rakijarnica is the perfect place to finish your tour on a high note! Try up to five different rakijas, noting the different flavors of each one, and then bid your guide farewell as your tour finishes in central Split.
