Early departure from your Hotel / Hostel (Puerto Varas / Puerto Montt) direction  to Alerce Andino National Park (39,255 hectares, created on November 17, 1982), towards us encounter with the ancient larch. The Alerce Andino National Park is part of the Biosphere Reserve Temperate Rainforest of the Southern Andes.

The Alerce or lahuán in Mapuche (Fitzroya cupressoides) is an evergreen tree that reaches a height of 45 meters and whose diameter can exceed 4 meters wide. It was declared «Natural Monument» in 1976, which prohibits the cutting of every individual living in the Chilean Territory.

This beautiful excursion will take us through the Pacific Coast Breast of Reloncaví through the Southern Road. Pass by quaint fishing villages and then 1 hour, part of the river reach Chaica in Alerce Andino National Park.   The Calbuco volcano(blue water in mapuche)  and all the beautiful Andean-Patagonian Mountain range, will be  joining us in this beautiful journey!

A beautiful native forest, wet and mild wowed us with its intense green, where we can see species  of local trees as Coigues (Nothofagus Donbeyi) Ulmos (Eucryphia cordifolia), Avellano(Gevuina avellana), Radales (Lomatia hirsuta) and Canelos (Drymis winteri).   After half an hour we arrive at a beautiful waterfall. We continue our way through their typical fauna, where we can see or hear some birds the black woodpecker, the Huet – Huet(Pteroptochos tarnii), Kingfisher (Magaceryle Stella torquata), the Peuco (Parabuteo Unicinctus) Pato Real (Anas sibilatrix), the Canquén (Chloephaga picta), the Cachudito(Anairetes parulus) and Torcaza (Patagioenas araucana). Among the common fish the Percatrucha (local fish) and introduced species like brown trout and rainbows.

We reached a redwood of  two thousand years (Butalahuen), then we will continuous  to Lake «Chaiquenes» where we will rest and take pictures.   We now proceed for 1 hour hike to reach our final destination will be the Laguna «Triangle».      Time to relax, take photos and eat to regain our energy!!!

We began the return trip to some sectors of the Carretera Austral, with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, Salmon and Shellfish farms and Puerto Montt.  Return to your hotel.
