The largest member of the deer family in Québec is everywhere in Réserve faunique de Matane. Over 4,000 moose share 1,275 km2, an incredible population density! A moose interpretation centre and a wide range of observation and interpretive activities are available for those who want to learn more about this animal. There are also a number of mountain peaks close to 1,000 metres high. Hikers can admire breathtaking views from
atop these vantage points.
Day 1: Arrival Matane, Quebec
Arrival at the end of the day at l’Étape – Accueil La Loutre Reception office (on
road 175 north). We ask that clients arrive at the Inn around 4:00 p.m. to meet with the guide/naturalist. Departure for Portes-de-l’Enfer in Réserve faunique des Laurentides and get settled in the cabin. You will be comfortably lodged in one of nine log cabins featuring a bathroom with shower, a woodstove and electricity. Departure for the bear observation activity (tree viewing platform). Afterwards, return to the pavilion for dinner followed by a discussion on the wolf, the bear and the history of the wildlife reserve in the company of your host. Overnight.
Day 2: Matane
A day of nature activities, outing in a rabaska canoe, visit a trappers tent and learn a moose “call”. Picnic lunch on the lake. Continue with afternoon activities and return to the pavilion. Overnight
Day 3: Matane
Free day. The Portes-de-l’Enfer sector is a great place to fish and relax.

There is no grocery store in the reserve. All groceries must be purchased
in advance of arrival at the cabin
