Canoe Camping Trip In The Canadian Wilderness (2 or 3 nights)

People with a sense of adventure will love this trip! It is geared towards beginners who
want to experience the Canadian wilderness. A guided canoe camping trip in Algonquin
Park is the best way to enjoy the beauty that an Ontario summer has to offer.
Only 3 hours north of Toronto, Algonquin Park is Ontario’s oldest Provincial Park and
one of the largest in Canada with over 2000 fresh water lakes. Within the borders of the
park can be found many wild animals such as moose, deer, beaver, wolves and bears,
all in their natural habitats. It is a paradise for canoeing with a multitude of waterways to
explore and wildlife to discover.

Day 1: TorontoAlgonquin

Pickup at Finch Subway Station. After a leisurely drive through the heart of Ontario farm land and cottage country we will have lunch on the shores of Rock Lake in Algonquin Park. In our “Expedition weight” kevlar canoes we paddle into one of the interior lakes of the park (Pen Lake). Before we start, our guide will brief us on the necessary skills and techniques for canoeing. After a 3-hour paddle (including a 300m portage) we arrive at our camp. Since this is a true interior wilderness camp we have to bring all our gear, including tents. Once we establish camp, with the help of our experienced guide, we are free to explore the lake. Dinner consists of fresh food, prepared on site, and enjoyed beside a blazing campfire! Afterwards, we can watch the stars and if we’re lucky we may even hear wolves howling in the distance! This is real Canadian camping!

Day 2: Algonquin Canoeing

We spend the day exploring a meandering river. After a short portage past an old dam used for logging, we paddle the slow moving waters of the South Madawaska River.

Day 3: Algonquin Canoeing (For 3-day itinerary replace day 3 with day 4)

After breakfast, we pack up our gear, load the canoes, and paddle out for a new camp. We have several small portages to deal with, and 3 lakes to cross. Our destination is Galeairy Lake, a beautiful lake on the east edge of Algonquin Park. After setting up, there will be ample time to relax, swim, read a book, or even go fishing for dinner!

Day 4: Algonquin Canoeing

After breakfast we pack up camp and start the journey home. We will get back to the van in the early afternoon and start the drive back, arriving in Toronto in the early evening
